National Intangible Cultural Heritage
Wudang Mountain Temple Music and Taoist Rituals, also known as "Wudang Tune", is a traditional music form that is popular in the Wudang Mountain area of Shiyan City, Hubei Province. It is one of the national intangible cultural heritages.
Wudang Mountain Temple Music and Taoist Rituals is the result of the combination of Han folk culture from the Qinba region of Hubei Province and Han imperial music from the Tang Dynasty to the Ming Dynasty. It reached its peak in the Ming Dynasty. It is usually presented as a performance that integrates singing, dancing and music. It retains the musical characteristics of the "Ten-Sphere Tune" of the Full-Temple Sect, while also having the charm of the integration of music from multiple sects. Moreover, it has all kinds of tune styles and ritual instruments.
On May 20, 2006, Wudang Mountain Temple Music and Taoist Rituals was approved by the State Council of the People's Republic of China to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list. The project number is II-69.
