Mr. Wang Duo, an advisor of the Guqin Professional Committee of the Chinese Musical Instrument Association, passed away peacefully at his home in Suzhou at 12:39 on May 27, 2025, at the age of 88. Mr. Wang Duo studied the piano under his uncle, Mr. Wu Zhaoki, in his early years. Throughout his life, he has been dedicated to the inheritance and development of ancient Chinese music. He has extensively studied the theory and philosophy of the piano. His students have spread far and wide. His musical style is elegant and ancient, and he has made inestimable contributions to the protection and promotion of ancient Chinese music culture. During his tenure as an advisor to our association, he guided his juniors with profound knowledge and a sincere heart, earning the respect of his colleagues.
The passing of Mr. Wang Duo is a great loss to the piano world. We are deeply saddened! This is our official notice of his death. We offer our deepest condolences. Mr. Wang Duo's piano music will forever live on, and his spirit will remain. We pray that he may rest in peace. The family and friends of Mr. Wang Duo are advised to grieve in a proper manner and adjust to the situation.
In accordance with the family's wishes, the funeral will be kept simple. We hereby inform all colleagues of this matter.

Wang Duo, whose courtesy name was Guangyu and whose pseudonym was Linwushanren and Sizanzi, was from Suzhou. He came from a family with a long tradition of music. His maternal grandfather Wu Lansun and his mother Xiangchen were both skilled in playing the zither. Wang Duo studied under his uncle, the renowned zither master Wu Zhaoki. His zither style was gentle, serene, and ethereal, with a calm and pure demeanor.
Wang Duo devoted himself to exploring Taoist music. He compiled and published the textbook "Silk and Guitars Lecture", as well as musical works such as "Wu Sound Graceful and Melodious", "Pianist's Health Preservation and Musical Composition Collection", and "Ancient Music and Memories". He also edited the musical journal "Pianist's Theory", and published various discs such as "Snow White", "Practice Exercises", "Haze of Freedom", "Taoist Music Pieces", "Great Sound of Silence", etc. of Yu Hao's stringed instrument music.
Wang Duo devoted his entire life to the inheritance and development of the ancient guqin art. He deeply studied guqin theory and philosophy, and cultivated many talented students across the country. His guqin style was elegant and ancient, and he made inestimable contributions to the protection and promotion of ancient guqin culture.
